Where is Jullah Majra?

Jullah Majra is a village of Nawanshahr tehsil in SBS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Nawansahar, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Aur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032259, and it covers 342 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 958 people in Jullah Majra: 480 men and 478 women, living in 180 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 342 hectares, the population density works out to about 280 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 996 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 97, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 566 people, about 59 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 84.44 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.54 per cent and women at 82.33 per cent. The census recorded 393 workers, about 41 per cent of the village. Of the 254 main workers, the largest group, 125, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 101 other workers in trade, transport and services and 23 agricultural labourers. A further 139 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
