Where is Malpur?

Malpur is a village of Nawanshahr tehsil in SBS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Rahon, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Aur community development block and is served by the Mall Pur gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032268, and it covers 234 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,683 people in Malpur: 857 men and 826 women, living in 338 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 234 hectares, the population density works out to about 719 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 964 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 167, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 819 people, about 49 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
