Where is Nai Mazara?

Nai Mazara is a village of Nawanshahr tehsil in SBS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Nawansahar, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nawanshahr community development block and is served by the Nai Majra gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032060, and it covers 99 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 945 people in Nai Mazara: 471 men and 474 women, living in 190 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 99 hectares, the population density works out to about 955 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1006 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 85, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 469 people, about 50 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 84.3 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 90.14 per cent and women at 78.57 per cent. The census recorded 248 workers, about 26 per cent of the village. Of the 218 main workers, the largest group, 129, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 82 cultivators on their own land and 4 agricultural labourers. A further 30 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
