Where is Duhewala?

Duhewala is a village in Gidderbaha tehsil of Sri Muktsar Sahib district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Sri Muktsar Sahib, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Kot Bhai community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035359, and it covers 843 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,984 people in Duhewala: 1,054 men and 930 women, living in 392 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 843 hectares, the population density works out to about 235 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 882 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 212, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 723 people, about 36 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 60.21 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 65.5 per cent and women at 54.22 per cent. The census recorded 665 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 603 main workers, the largest group, 323, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 229 agricultural labourers and 42 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 62 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
