Where is Tarkhanwala?

Tarkhanwala is a village of Malout tehsil in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Malout, about 18 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Malout community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035265, and it covers 1,349 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,256 people in Tarkhanwala: 1,705 men and 1,551 women, living in 591 households, an average of about 5.5 people per household. Spread over its 1,349 hectares, the population density works out to about 241 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 910 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 379, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,725 people, about 53 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
