Where is Gagrewal?

Gagrewal is a village in Khadur Sahib tehsil of Tarn Taran district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Kapurthala, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Khadur Sahib community development block and is served by the Garrewal gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038316, and it covers 725 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,402 people in Gagrewal: 724 men and 678 women, living in 266 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 725 hectares, the population density works out to about 193 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 936 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 155, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 552 people, about 39 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 73.62 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 76.98 per cent and women at 70.03 per cent. The census recorded 405 workers, about 29 per cent of the village.
