Where is Kuri Wallah?

Kuri Wallah is a village in Khadur Sahib tehsil of Tarn Taran district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Patti, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Khadur Sahib community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038304, and it covers 262 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,365 people in Kuri Wallah: 712 men and 653 women, living in 220 households, an average of about 6.2 people per household. Spread over its 262 hectares, the population density works out to about 521 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 917 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 162, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 469 people, about 34 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 74.23 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 80.89 per cent and women at 67.45 per cent. The census recorded 678 workers, about 50 per cent of the village. Of the 395 main workers, the largest group, 146, were household industry workers, ahead of 105 other workers in trade, transport and services and 72 cultivators on their own land. A further 283 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (238 hectares). About 24 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
