Express Entry Job Offer Points From Nov 3

Canada is bringing job offer points back to Express Entry, and the clock is running for anyone holding an offer. Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab announced the changes in Kitchener, Ontario, on October 16, 2026: starting November 3, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will award additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points to candidates with eligible Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation, including jobs such as engineers and electricians. For the large Punjabi community in the Express Entry pool, in Canada and in Punjab, the change can move a score by up to 100 points overnight.

What must you do before November 3?

If you want points for a job offer, act now. IRCC says candidates already in the pool will have their scores automatically recalculated for eligible Canadian work experience, but candidates who wish to receive points for a qualifying job offer must update their profiles with the required information before November 3. The recalculation may take up to two weeks, and invitation rounds will be paused while it runs, so there is no draw to catch in that window: the profile update is the only step a candidate controls, and its deadline is November 3.

How many points is a job offer worth?

The new points sit in a new CRS section, the Labour Market Integration Factor. A qualifying job offer earns 100 points when the occupation's median wage is at least twice the Canada-wide median, 70 points at 1.5 times or more, and 50 points at 1.3 times or more. IRCC has listed 186 high-wage occupations: 31 in the top group, 89 in the middle group and 66 in the base group, assessed from Job Bank, Labour Force Survey and Census data. The tier follows the occupation's median wage, not the salary on your own offer letter, and the occupation is set by the duties of the job under Canada's National Occupational Classification.

How does Canadian work experience score instead?

Candidates score the higher of the two routes, never both added together. Canadian work experience keeps its existing length points, up to 80 points for five years, and adds a high-wage bonus of 70, 40 or 20 points for at least 12 months of work in a high-wage occupation, giving up to 150 points in total, or 140 for a candidate with an accompanying spouse or partner. A candidate whose offer is worth less than their experience total simply keeps the experience score, and the system applies whichever is higher automatically.

Is an LMIA still needed for a job offer?

No. From November 3, a labour market impact assessment (LMIA) is no longer required for a qualifying job offer to receive the new points, or to meet the job offer requirements under the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. Job offers had earned no CRS points at all since March 2025, when IRCC removed the old arranged employment points. IRCC says it will still assess every offer to confirm it is genuine and meets program requirements, with measures in place to protect against fraud, so an offer letter alone is not enough: the job, the employer and the duties must hold up.

What do the case studies show?

CIC News worked three examples on October 23. Arjun, a 27 year old management consultant in Canada with a job offer in a 1.5 times occupation, rises from 483 to 513, gaining 30 points because his 70 point offer beats the 60 points his Canadian experience would give. Sarah, a Toronto postdoctoral fellow whose occupation sits in the top 2 times group, jumps from 467 to 567 on the full 100 point offer. Emeka, an information systems specialist with four years in Canada, rises from 488 to 528: his experience total of 103 points beats even a 100 point offer, so the system counts his experience instead.

When do the new Express Entry points start?

On November 3, 2026. The changes were announced by IRCC on October 16, 2026, and scores in the pool are then recalculated under the new system, a process that may take up to two weeks with invitation rounds paused.

Do job offer points and experience points add together?

No. Under the Labour Market Integration Factor a candidate receives the higher of the job offer total, up to 100 points, or the Canadian work experience total, up to 150 points. The two routes are compared, not combined.
