Amritsar: 8 Held, 11 Pistols Seized

Amritsar Commissionerate Police have busted three separate drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling networks with the arrest of eight people and the recovery of 11 pistols and 2.293 kg of heroin, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said on Friday, 30 October 2026. The police statement, carried by Bright Punjab Express, Daily Kiran and The World Opinion, said the arrested men were allegedly in contact with foreign-based handlers who facilitated the supply of illegal weapons for further distribution among criminal elements. The allegations are those of the police and have not been tested in court.

Who was arrested in Amritsar?

Police identified the arrested men as Karandeep Singh alias Babbu (24) of Bhalla Colony, Amritsar; Karan Singh alias Vansh (19) and Karandeep Singh alias Karan (20), both of Naushehra Dhalla village in Tarn Taran; Angraj Singh alias Shanki (28) and Rahul alias Shaani (30), both of Ghanupur Kale village in Amritsar; Manpreet Singh alias Karan (22) of Attari village; Kapil alias Papal (31) of Gowal Mandi; and Nikhil Gill alias Saap (27) of Sadar Bazar Cantt, Amritsar. Police said Angraj Singh, Kapil and Nikhil Gill have a criminal background, with cases under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act registered against them. The recovered pistols include three 9mm Glock pistols, two .30 bore Star pistols, one .30 bore Beretta, one .30 bore PX-5, three .30 bore pistols and one country-made .32 bore pistol, along with four live cartridges.

How did the three operations unfold?

Commissioner of Police Amritsar Harmanbir Singh Gill said that in the first operation, acting on specific information, police teams arrested Karandeep Singh alias Babbu from the Chheharta police station area and recovered two pistols from him. In the second operation, acting on reliable inputs, teams arrested six men, Karan Singh alias Vansh, Angraj Singh alias Shanki, Manpreet Singh alias Karan, Rahul alias Shaani, Kapil alias Papal and Nikhil Gill alias Saap, and recovered seven pistols from them. In the third operation, teams pursuing a separate lead arrested Karandeep Singh alias Karan from the Chheharta area and recovered two pistols along with the full 2.293 kg of heroin from him. The DGP said further investigation is under way to establish the backward and forward linkages of the networks and identify others involved.

What cases have been registered?

Three separate cases have been registered, police said: FIR No. 251 dated 17 October 2026 under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Chheharta police station; FIR No. 155 dated 24 October 2026 under Sections 25(6), 25(7) and 25(8) of the Arms Act at A-Division police station; and FIR No. 268 dated 28 October 2026 under Sections 25(6), 25(7) and 25(8) of the Arms Act and Section 21-C of the NDPS Act at Chheharta police station. The bust follows a series of large recoveries in the border district this month, including the Counter Intelligence wing's seizure of 10 pistols on 27 October and Amritsar Rural Police's recovery of 14 pistols and 20.130 kg of heroin in four operations reported the same week.
