Amritsar Rural Police have dismantled two illegal arms and narcotics supply networks and arrested four people, recovering a sophisticated M16 rifle, nine pistols, 15 kg of opium and 25 cartridges, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said in a post on X on Saturday. Police said preliminary investigation points to links with foreign-based smugglers.

Reports citing Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the opium and the M16 were seized in one operation, while the nine pistols were seized by the police Special Cell in a separate one.
Who has been arrested?
Four people were arrested across the two operations. Police said two of them, Malkit Singh and Gurjit Singh, who are brothers-in-law, allegedly had 15 packets of opium and the M16 rifle. These are police allegations; the accused have not been convicted of anything.
