BSF Seizes 5 kg Heroin, 5 kg Opium and Drone in Amritsar

The Border Security Force (BSF) seized more than 5 kg of heroin and about 5 kg of opium in two separate recoveries along the India-Pakistan border in Amritsar, according to reports on Wednesday, October 7. A drone was recovered along with the heroin, and cases have been registered under the NDPS Act.

What did the BSF recover?

In the first instance, a BSF patrol party found a suspicious packet during a search operation in the Kahangarh police chowki area under Gharinda police station. It contained 5.012 kg of heroin, and a drone was recovered along with it. Hindi reports identify the drone as a DJI Matrice 400.

In the second instance, BSF personnel seized about 5.050 kg of opium in the Pul Moran area. The packet also held 490 gm of packaging material.

What cases have been registered?

A case under the NDPS Act and the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024, has been registered at Gharinda police station over the heroin and drone recovery. The opium was handed to Lopoke police, which registered a case under Sections 18, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act. Both cases are against unknown persons.
