The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, filed a supplementary chargesheet of around 40,000 pages against Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a Mohali court, in the disproportionate assets case registered against him in June 2025.

A government spokesperson said the probe has traced an alleged Rs 736.96-crore drug-money trail linked to the case. The Times of India put the alleged value of disproportionate assets at Rs 736 crore, up from about Rs 700 crore in the first challan, and said the document names 13 companies and individuals.

What does the supplementary chargesheet allege?

According to the spokesperson, the Bureau's findings include Rs 161 crore in unaccounted cash deposits into accounts of companies controlled by Majithia, Rs 141 crore channelled through suspected foreign entities, and Rs 236 crore in excess deposits not disclosed or explained in company financial statements.

Family-owned Saraya Industries is at the centre of the findings, the spokesperson said. The probe also examined transfers involving liquor businesses, suspected foreign entities and business associates. The Indian Express named Akash Spirit, UV Enterprises and AD Enterprises among the companies examined, and The New Indian Express reported that the filing names Majithia's brother-in-law Gajpat Singh Grewal and others.

What did Majithia say?

Majithia rejected the case in a post on X. He said no chargesheet has been filed in the drug case in five years, and that this is a supplementary chargesheet in a disproportionate assets case. "It took a year and a half to concoct this story, which is nothing but a bundle of lies," he wrote, adding: "Truth will prevail."

The allegations are the Bureau's and have not been tested in court. The Statesman noted that the Rs 700-crore figure relates to transactions examined by investigators and is not a judicial finding that the entire amount is illegally acquired wealth. The government said the legal findings will be decided by the judicial process.

What is the Majithia disproportionate assets case?

The Vigilance Bureau registered an FIR on June 25, 2025, in Mohali under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and arrested Majithia the same day at his Amritsar home. The FIR was based on a Special Investigation Team report dated June 7, 2025. A first chargesheet of about 40,000 pages followed in late August 2025, citing assets of Rs 540 crore according to the spokesperson. The Bureau arrested his close aide Harpreet Singh Gulati on November 30, 2025. The Supreme Court granted Majithia bail on February 2, 2026.

Why does it matter before the 2027 polls?

The filing comes months before the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with drugs a central political issue and the AAP government and the Akali Dal trading charges. Majithia is the brother-in-law of Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal. The total volume of challans and records filed so far is estimated at 52,000 to 53,000 pages, according to the Times of India.
