Basarke Gillan is a village in Amritsar II tehsil of Amritsar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Amritsar, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Attari community development block and is served by the Basarke--Gillan gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037593, and it covers 567 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,660 people in Basarke Gillan: 1,947 men and 1,713 women, living in 623 households, an average of about 5.9 people per household. Spread over its 567 hectares, the population density works out to about 646 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 880 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 428, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,230 people, about 34 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 67.57 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 71.85 per cent and women at 62.77 per cent.
