Where is Dudhala?

Dudhala is a village in Amritsar I tehsil of Amritsar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Amritsar, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jandiala Guru community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037517, and it covers 198 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,007 people in Dudhala: 534 men and 473 women, living in 202 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 198 hectares, the population density works out to about 509 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 886 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 94, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 257 people, about 26 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.31 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 87.27 per cent and women at 68.43 per cent. The census recorded 331 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 321 main workers, the largest group, 145, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 93 agricultural labourers and 80 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 10 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (174 hectares). About 24 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day. With 147 cultivators and 95 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.

Amritsar I, the tehsil headquarters, and Amritsar city, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Chogawan Roopowali and Mehnian Brahmana.
