Iban Khurd is a village in Amritsar II tehsil of Amritsar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Amritsar, about 9 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Attari community development block and is served by the Iban--Khurd gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037586, and it covers 169 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,806 people in Iban Khurd: 934 men and 872 women, living in 345 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 169 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,069 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 934 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 252, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 807 people, about 45 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 58.56 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 63.49 per cent and women at 53.37 per cent. The census recorded 708 workers, about 39 per cent of the village. Of the 587 main workers, the largest group, 483, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 40 household industry workers and 39 agricultural labourers. A further 121 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Land and farming

Farming covers most of Iban Khurd's land. Of the village's 169 hectares, 138 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (138 hectares). About 31 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 14 hours a day. The census recorded 26 cultivators and 41 agricultural labourers, so farming supports many labouring families as well as landholders.
