Where is Miadi Kalan?

Miadi Kalan is a village in Lopoke tehsil of Amritsar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Ajnala, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Chogawan community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037232, and it covers 316 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 993 people in Miadi Kalan: 538 men and 455 women, living in 171 households, an average of about 5.8 people per household. Spread over its 316 hectares, the population density works out to about 314 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 846 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 140, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 417 people, about 42 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 56.86 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 61.56 per cent and women at 51.61 per cent. The census recorded 248 workers, about 25 per cent of the village. Of the 245 main workers, the largest group, 135, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 79 agricultural labourers and 31 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 3 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
