Where is Ranian?

Ranian is a village of Lopoke tehsil in Amritsar district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Raja Sansi, about 28 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Chogawan community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037196, and it covers 1,031 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,226 people in Ranian: 655 men and 571 women, living in 205 households, an average of about 6.0 people per household. Spread over its 1,031 hectares, the population density works out to about 119 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 872 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 180, about 15 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 512 people, about 42 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
