Where is Bhodipura?

Bhodipura is a village of Rampura Phul tehsil in Bathinda district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Bhagta Bhai Ka, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bhagta Bhaika community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035641, and it covers 1,019 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,525 people in Bhodipura: 1,850 men and 1,675 women, living in 667 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 1,019 hectares, the population density works out to about 346 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 905 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 371, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,198 people, about 34 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 66.17 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 70.13 per cent and women at 61.85 per cent. The census recorded 1,004 workers, about 28 per cent of the village. Of the 850 main workers, the largest group, 395, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 222 other workers in trade, transport and services and 209 agricultural labourers. A further 154 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
