Where is Faridkot?

Faridkot is a village of Bathinda tehsil in Bathinda district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sangat, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sangat community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035822, and it covers 1,068 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,157 people in Faridkot: 1,133 men and 1,024 women, living in 437 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 1,068 hectares, the population density works out to about 202 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 904 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 234, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 708 people, about 33 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 59.18 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 67.55 per cent and women at 49.83 per cent. The census recorded 1,309 workers, about 61 per cent of the village. Of the 806 main workers, the largest group, 352, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 351 agricultural labourers and 89 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 503 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
