Gumti Kalan is a village in Rampura Phul tehsil of Bathinda district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Bhagta Bhai Ka, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bhagta Bhaika community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035657, and it covers 2,025 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 5,714 people in Gumti Kalan: 3,016 men and 2,698 women, living in 1,110 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 2,025 hectares, the population density works out to about 282 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 895 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 574, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,728 people, about 30 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 62.26 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 65.72 per cent and women at 58.4 per cent. The census recorded 2,120 workers, about 37 per cent of the village. Of the 1,792 main workers, the largest group, 922, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 447 agricultural labourers and 400 other workers in trade, transport and services. Rampura Phul, the tehsil headquarters, and Bathinda, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Bhai Rupa, Dayalpura Mirza, Dulewala and Selbrah.
