Hamirgarh is a village in Rampura Phul tehsil of Bathinda district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Bhagta Bhai Ka, about 2 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bhagta Bhaika community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035647, and it covers 837 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,212 people in Hamirgarh: 1,655 men and 1,557 women, living in 575 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 837 hectares, the population density works out to about 384 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 941 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 334, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,450 people, about 45 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 60.77 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 64.58 per cent and women at 56.69 per cent. The census recorded 1,319 workers, about 41 per cent of the village. Of the 840 main workers, the largest group, 383, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 227 agricultural labourers and 143 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 479 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Rampura Phul, the tehsil headquarters, and Bathinda, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel.
