Where is Chak Rohela?

Chak Rohela is a village in Fazilka tehsil of Fazilka district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Fazilka, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Fazilka community development block and is served by the Rohela Tajeke gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035047, and it covers 193 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 963 people in Chak Rohela: 468 men and 495 women, living in 186 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 193 hectares, the population density works out to about 499 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1058 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 164, about 17 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 957 people, about 99 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 57.95 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 69.01 per cent and women at 47.71 per cent. The census recorded 337 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. Of the 269 main workers, the largest group, 161, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 91 other workers in trade, transport and services and 16 agricultural labourers. A further 68 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
