Where is Ojhanwali?

Ojhanwali is a village of Fazilka tehsil in Fazilka district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Fazilka, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Fazilka community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035034, and it covers 532 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,424 people in Ojhanwali: 1,225 men and 1,199 women, living in 485 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 532 hectares, the population density works out to about 456 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 979 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 308, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,790 people, about 74 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 62.05 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 70.33 per cent and women at 53.66 per cent. The census recorded 887 workers, about 37 per cent of the village. A further 329 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Neighbouring villages include Jorki Andhewali, Deepulana, Jore Jand Urf Chimnewala and Shaman Khanka.
