Jaura Singha is a village in Batala tehsil of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Batala, about 9 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Batala community development block and is served by the Jaura Singh gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028757, and it covers 382 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,126 people in Jaura Singha: 1,143 men and 983 women, living in 395 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 382 hectares, the population density works out to about 557 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 860 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 234, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 681 people, about 32 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 68.97 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 72.66 per cent and women at 64.73 per cent. The census recorded 607 workers, about 29 per cent of the village. Of the 470 main workers, the largest group, 243, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 141 other workers in trade, transport and services and 75 agricultural labourers. A further 137 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
