Where is Beh Ranga?

Beh Ranga is a village of Mukerian tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Talwara, about 13 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Talwara community development block and is served by the Beh Ranga, Patti Lakhar Palli gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031297, and it covers 288 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 845 people in Beh Ranga: 427 men and 418 women, living in 185 households, an average of about 4.6 people per household. Spread over its 288 hectares, the population density works out to about 293 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 979 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 83, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 82 people, about 10 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 88.45 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 92.49 per cent and women at 84.31 per cent. The census recorded 282 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 249 main workers, the largest group, 221, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 20 cultivators on their own land and 5 agricultural labourers. A further 33 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
