Where is Jamalpur?

Jamalpur is a village in Mukerian tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Mukerian, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hazipur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031251, and it covers 92 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 237 people in Jamalpur: 121 men and 116 women, living in 40 households, an average of about 5.9 people per household. Spread over its 92 hectares, the population density works out to about 258 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 959 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 32, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 55 people, about 23 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
