Where is Khun Khun Kalan?

Khun Khun Kalan is a village of Dasua tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Urmar Tanda, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Tanda community development block and is served by the Khun--Khun--Kalan gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030840, and it covers 256 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,076 people in Khun Khun Kalan: 1,065 men and 1,011 women, living in 455 households, an average of about 4.6 people per household. Spread over its 256 hectares, the population density works out to about 811 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 949 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 174, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 841 people, about 41 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 88.33 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 91.89 per cent and women at 84.68 per cent. A further 185 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
