Where is Odrah?

Odrah is a village of Dasua tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dasua, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dasua community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030975, and it covers 108 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 600 people in Odrah: 300 men and 300 women, living in 128 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 108 hectares, the population density works out to about 556 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1000 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 74, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 507 people, about 84 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Farming covers most of Odrah's land. Of the village's 108 hectares, 86 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 80 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (80 hectares). About 22 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day. With 26 cultivators and 8 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
