Where is Sari Shatpur?

Sari Shatpur is a village in Hoshiarpur tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 30 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hoshiarpur-I community development block and is served by the Sari--Shatpur gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031672, and it covers 163 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 703 people in Sari Shatpur: 367 men and 336 women, living in 137 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 163 hectares, the population density works out to about 431 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 916 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 61, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 262 people, about 37 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 90.03 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 93.66 per cent and women at 86.17 per cent. The census recorded 340 workers, about 48 per cent of the village. Of the 291 main workers, the largest group, 162, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 92 cultivators on their own land and 29 agricultural labourers. A further 49 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
