Where is Dhindsa?

Dhindsa is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Goraya, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Rurka Kalan community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030216, and it covers 110 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,202 people in Dhindsa: 634 men and 568 women, living in 240 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 110 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,096 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 896 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 107, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 645 people, about 54 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 82.01 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.42 per cent and women at 78.23 per cent. The census recorded 432 workers, about 36 per cent of the village. Of the 398 main workers, the largest group, 281, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 87 cultivators on their own land and 15 agricultural labourers. A further 34 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
