Where is Kathar?

Kathar is a village of Jalandhar East tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Adampur, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Adampur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030296, and it covers 190 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,134 people in Kathar: 618 men and 516 women, living in 274 households, an average of about 4.1 people per household. Spread over its 190 hectares, the population density works out to about 597 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 835 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 118, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 391 people, about 34 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 81.69 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.71 per cent and women at 78.04 per cent. The census recorded 394 workers, about 35 per cent of the village.
