Nagar is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Phillaur, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Phillaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030133, and it covers 544 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,187 people in Nagar: 1,622 men and 1,565 women, living in 663 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 544 hectares, the population density works out to about 586 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 965 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 319, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,787 people, about 56 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 81.8 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.89 per cent and women at 77.6 per cent.
