Sujo Kalia is a village in Sultanpur Lodhi tehsil of Kapurthala district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Kapurthala, about 14 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sultanpur Lodhi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029366, and it covers 234 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 745 people in Sujo Kalia: 386 men and 359 women, living in 134 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 234 hectares, the population density works out to about 318 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 930 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 59, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 125 people, about 17 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.86 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.51 per cent and women at 72.14 per cent. The census recorded 429 workers, about 58 per cent of the village. Of the 264 main workers, the largest group, 143, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 92 other workers in trade, transport and services and 28 agricultural labourers. A further 165 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Sultanpur Lodhi, the tehsil headquarters, and Kapurthala town, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Saidpur, Mullan Baha, Thatta and Nathupur.
