Where is Chakli Adil?

Chakli Adil is a village in Samrala tehsil of Ludhiana district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Machhiwara, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Machhiwara community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033052, and it covers 106 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 373 people in Chakli Adil: 188 men and 185 women, living in 87 households, an average of about 4.3 people per household. Spread over its 106 hectares, the population density works out to about 352 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 984 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 46, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 168 people, about 45 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 80.73 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 83.83 per cent and women at 77.5 per cent. The census recorded 102 workers, about 27 per cent of the village. Of the 76 main workers, the largest group, 51, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 16 cultivators on their own land and 9 agricultural labourers. A further 26 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farming covers most of Chakli Adil's land. Of the village's 106 hectares, 99 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (99 hectares). About 7 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 6 hours a day. The census recorded 17 cultivators and 32 agricultural labourers, so farming supports many labouring families as well as landholders.

Samrala, the tehsil headquarters, and Ludhiana city, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Shahbazpur, Tanda Kalian, Garhi Bet and Ramgarh.
