Where is Dholanwal?

Dholanwal is a village in Ludhiana East tehsil of Ludhiana district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Ludhiana, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ludhiana-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033413, and it covers 192 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,914 people in Dholanwal: 1,040 men and 874 women, living in 341 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 192 hectares, the population density works out to about 997 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 840 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 254, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,241 people, about 65 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 63.73 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 70.36 per cent and women at 56.01 per cent. The census recorded 746 workers, about 39 per cent of the village. A further 87 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
