Where is Mangli Tanda?

Mangli Tanda is a village in Ludhiana East tehsil of Ludhiana district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Ludhiana, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ludhiana-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033439, and it covers 104 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,065 people in Mangli Tanda: 1,117 men and 948 women, living in 391 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 104 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,986 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 849 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 252, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 83 people, about 4 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 68.56 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 75.51 per cent and women at 60.31 per cent. The census recorded 635 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 569 main workers, the largest group, 376, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 106 household industry workers and 63 cultivators on their own land. A further 66 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (98 hectares). About 6 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
