Where is Danour?

Danour is a village of Pathankot tehsil in Pathankot district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dina Nagar, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Pathankot community development block and is served by the Danaur gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027640, and it covers 133 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 883 people in Danour: 456 men and 427 women, living in 157 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 133 hectares, the population density works out to about 664 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 936 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 84, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 322 people, about 36 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 80.6 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.82 per cent and women at 74.93 per cent. The census recorded 252 workers, about 29 per cent of the village. Irrigation came mainly from canals (41 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (73 hectares). About 17 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 10 hours a day. With 59 cultivators and 55 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
