Where is Kheri Bhima?

Kheri Bhima is a village of Samana tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Samana, about 13 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Samana community development block and is served by the Kheri gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036209, and it covers 252 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 721 people in Kheri Bhima: 380 men and 341 women, living in 134 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 252 hectares, the population density works out to about 286 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 897 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 79, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 157 people, about 22 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 70.09 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 75.08 per cent and women at 64.72 per cent. The census recorded 231 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. A further 35 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from canals (77 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (20 hectares). About 15 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
