Maddo Majra is a village in Patiala tehsil of Patiala district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Patiala, about 20 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sanaur community development block and is served by the Maddo--Majra gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036638, and it covers 276 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 869 people in Maddo Majra: 467 men and 402 women, living in 160 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 276 hectares, the population density works out to about 315 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 861 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 98, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 404 people, about 46 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 65.63 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 75 per cent and women at 54.87 per cent. The census recorded 304 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. A further 17 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farming covers most of Maddo Majra's land. Of the village's 276 hectares, 252 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 248 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (83 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (165 hectares). About 24 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 16 hours a day. With 172 cultivators and 7 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
