Where is Rauni?

Rauni is a village of Patiala tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Patiala, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Patiala community development block and is served by the Rauni, Rauni Jhungian gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036564, and it covers 295 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,562 people in Rauni: 1,359 men and 1,203 women, living in 508 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 295 hectares, the population density works out to about 868 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 885 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 312, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 493 people, about 19 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 72.71 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 79.67 per cent and women at 64.83 per cent. The census recorded 840 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. A further 22 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
