Where is Sular?

Sular is a village of Patiala tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Patiala, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sanaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036557, and it covers 235 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,742 people in Sular: 2,032 men and 1,710 women, living in 773 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 235 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,592 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 842 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 405, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 516 people, about 14 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.06 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 82.28 per cent and women at 73.03 per cent. The census recorded 1,262 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 1,141 main workers, the largest group, 972, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 96 cultivators on their own land and 45 agricultural labourers. A further 121 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
