Where is Dubheta?

Dubheta is a village in Nangal tehsil of Rupnagar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Puadh region, and the 2011 directory recorded Nangal, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Anandpur Sahib community development block and is served by the Dobheta gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038564, and it covers 260 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,919 people in Dubheta: 960 men and 959 women, living in 386 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 260 hectares, the population density works out to about 738 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 999 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 227, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 855 people, about 45 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 87.29 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 92.62 per cent and women at 82.04 per cent. The census recorded 496 workers, about 26 per cent of the village. Of the 475 main workers, the largest group, 465, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 5 household industry workers and 4 cultivators on their own land. A further 21 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farming covers most of Dubheta's land. Of the village's 260 hectares, 184 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (184 hectares). About 42 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 9 hours a day. With 6 cultivators and 1 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
