Where is Kotra Amru?

Kotra Amru is a village of Sunam tehsil in Sangrur district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sunam, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sunam community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039858, and it covers 452 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,474 people in Kotra Amru: 779 men and 695 women, living in 309 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 452 hectares, the population density works out to about 326 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 892 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 165, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 314 people, about 21 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 59.66 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 63.66 per cent and women at 55.23 per cent. The census recorded 494 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. A further 25 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
