Where is Bhukhri?

Bhukhri is a village of Banga tehsil in SBS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Banga, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Banga community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032198, and it covers 83 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 483 people in Bhukhri: 248 men and 235 women, living in 102 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 83 hectares, the population density works out to about 582 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 948 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 57, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 247 people, about 51 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 81.22 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.32 per cent and women at 76.92 per cent. The census recorded 132 workers, about 27 per cent of the village.
