Where is Kazampur?

Kazampur is a village of Nawanshahr tehsil in SBS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Rahon, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nawanshahr community development block and is served by the Kazam Pur gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032308, and it covers 149 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 729 people in Kazampur: 371 men and 358 women, living in 152 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 149 hectares, the population density works out to about 489 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 965 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 70, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 268 people, about 37 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 79.51 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.67 per cent and women at 73.15 per cent. The census recorded 249 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 175 main workers, the largest group, 94, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 53 agricultural labourers and 27 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 74 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Neighbouring villages include Chahar Mazara, Jalwaha, Chhokran and Shamspur.
