Shahabpur is a village in Nawanshahr tehsil of SBS Nagar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Nawansahar, about 9 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nawanshahr community development block and is served by the Shahab Pur gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032318, and it covers 141 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,244 people in Shahabpur: 616 men and 628 women, living in 276 households, an average of about 4.5 people per household. Spread over its 141 hectares, the population density works out to about 882 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1019 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 103, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 309 people, about 25 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 79.93 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.81 per cent and women at 74.04 per cent. The census recorded 398 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Of the 366 main workers, the largest group, 225, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 124 other workers in trade, transport and services and 10 household industry workers. A further 32 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
