Where is Sukar?

Sukar is a village of Banga tehsil in SBS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Banga, about 9 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Aur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032210, and it covers 101 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 331 people in Sukar: 169 men and 162 women, living in 72 households, an average of about 4.6 people per household. Spread over its 101 hectares, the population density works out to about 328 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 959 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 33, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 262 people, about 79 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 82.89 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.56 per cent and women at 81.21 per cent. The census recorded 96 workers, about 29 per cent of the village.
