Where is Kheowali?

Kheowali is a village of Malout tehsil in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dabwali, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Lambi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035314, and it covers 611 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,401 people in Kheowali: 1,234 men and 1,167 women, living in 464 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 611 hectares, the population density works out to about 393 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 946 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 294, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,111 people, about 46 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 62.7 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 72.39 per cent and women at 52.31 per cent. The census recorded 931 workers, about 39 per cent of the village. Of the 810 main workers, the largest group, 334, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 315 agricultural labourers and 153 other workers in trade, transport and services.
