Where is Khane Ki Dhab?

Khane Ki Dhab is a village in Malout tehsil of Sri Muktsar Sahib district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Malout, about 14 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Malout community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035268, and it covers 764 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,000 people in Khane Ki Dhab: 1,031 men and 969 women, living in 390 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 764 hectares, the population density works out to about 262 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 940 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 254, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,082 people, about 54 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 62.89 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 71.44 per cent and women at 53.64 per cent. The census recorded 615 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 382 main workers, the largest group, 185, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 152 agricultural labourers and 38 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 233 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
