Panjwar is a large village in Tarn Taran tehsil of Tarn Taran district, Punjab, in the Majha region. In the census record it carries village code 037891, and that code is what separates it from every other place of a similar name. The census recorded Tarn Taran town, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town, and the tehsil and district headquarters at Tarn Taran stand about 18 kilometres away. Panjwar covers 1,913 hectares and has PIN code 143301. It falls in the Tarn Taran community development block. The census named its gram panchayat simply Panjwar, while current LGD panchayat listings call the same body Panjwar Kalan Gram Panchayat, covering this single village under the Tarn Taran Panchayat Samiti. No Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 63.27 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 67.56 per cent and women at 58.53 per cent. The census recorded 2,511 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 2,052 main workers, the largest group, 907 people, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 663 cultivators on their own land and 403 agricultural labourers, with household industry workers making up the rest. A further 459 people were marginal workers. Counting everyone, the village held 733 cultivators against 517 agricultural labourers, so most farm work here is done by landholding families themselves, while the single biggest block of workers already earns outside farming.

Farming covers most of Panjwar's land, and it runs mainly on canal water. Of the village's 1,913 hectares, 1,726 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated: 1,201 hectares from canals and 525 hectares from wells and tube-wells. About 171 hectares were barren or uncultivable. The census directory named paddy as the village's first agricultural commodity. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day, domestic supply at 12 hours and supply for all users at 20 hours.

A name from the village in the national news

Panjwar's name reached the national press through one of its sons. News reports published in May 2023, among them the Hindustan Times and India Today, recorded that Paramjit Singh Panjwar was born in this village in 1960 and worked at a Central Cooperative Bank in nearby Sohal before joining the Khalistan Commando Force in 1986. He later led a faction of that organisation, was designated a terrorist by the Government of India under the UAPA in 2020 according to those reports, and was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Lahore, Pakistan, on 6 May 2023.
